About me ~ When I first started out on my own I dined out almost exclusively. Unfortunately that kind of food, while delicious, is rarely without a lot of fat and sodium. At the time I was a young professional working on my career and the last thing I would have thought to do was learn how to cook. After taking a project in D.C. I noticed all of my coworkers were very into being fit and healthy. I was never actually overweight, but I was far from healthy.
I didn't know anything about healthy eating or healthy cooking, actually I didn't know how to cook period, nor did I think I had time to cook. Over the course of 6 months I repeatedly tried my hand at cooking. I might have cooked a few meals twice a week, the other nights would end up being frozen skillet meals or microwave meals. Better than dining out, but not the clean eating lifestyle I follow today. At that time my mental picture of a healthy meal was baked chicken and steamed vegetables, very opposite of what I had become accustom to. Through it all, my then new boyfriend (now husband) never once complained or criticized my cooking. Even when I had a hard time eating what I was cooking. :) After about a year I finally got the hang of this cooking thing and over the past 4 years I have found a nice balance between healthy, simple and gourmet.
This isn't just a recipe blog. This is a blog to teach you how to cook simple healthy meals that will make you feel like a 5 star chef! Well almost. ;)
